Thinkers 50, 2023 Reconnect, Rethink, and Reset

Dr. Merriman attended Thinkers 50, 2023 on November 5-6 in London, UK as well as their virtual event on October 4-5, 2023.

A wide variety of respected authors, experts and scholars in diverse fields of subject matter related to management and leadership weighed in over 4 days on topics that today’s leaders must grapple with in order to make our tomorrow better. The consensus was that the future looks bright despite the complicated, and at times seemingly intractable conflicts that we find ourselves facing. But it will require careful, thoughtful and deliberate efforts to protect and promote the core of what makes us human.

“I believe leaders succeed with having the most impact when they lead with their heart. In a world dealing with the reality of artificial intelligence being here to stay, along with its unknown impact on civilization, extremely rapid information creation, shifts in how work places and work forces exist, the need for truly becoming inclusive of diversity, and many more complex problems that could hinder our progress, we will have to come together with our most innovative, creative and ambitious thinking.” – Dr. Sunita Merriman

I returned home from T50 with gratitude for my inspiring peers at Thinkers50 who generously shared their expertise, thoughts, encouragement, and knowledge with me. Time spent with them was both intellectually stimulating and heartwarming. A special thank you goes out to Dorie Clark who was instrumental in my invitation to attend this conference and to the event organizers, Des Dearlove and Stuart Crainer

In conversation with Kristin Osborn LMHC, LPCC, an internationally recognized psychotherapist, researcher, author, and an Associate in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and appointed Clinical Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Among her many other career honors, Kristin has also served as President of IEDTA, International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association.

“This talk brought a new awareness to me of the ubiquitous nature of sleep difficulties in people's lives and how trauma can impact on this further. Dr. Merriman's understanding of the relationship between treating sleep difficulties and thus improving a person's mood status was an eye opener to me, and it is something that clinicians need to consider in the holistic treatment both of psychological/psychiatric difficulties and how they interact with sleep and dental, and sleep apnea. This is a new area for both researchers and clinicians alike to consider.”

The IEDTA’s 2019 International Conference, “New Frontiers in Experiential Dynamic Therapy,” took place in Boston, September 26-28, 2019, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Boston’s historic Theater District1 . This conference was co-sponsored by the IEDTA, William James College, and the Washington School of Psychiatry. Friday evening’s Gala dinner featured poet Sunita Merriman reading from her book “Stripping-My Fight to Find Me.”

“It was an interesting idea to have poetry at the gala. It was wonderful how it worked so beautifully and how it was so much appreciated. What a contemplative atmosphere your reading created - Your words were received by ears and hearts which are already finely attuned to these meanings and themes. The impact was extremely moving. Thank you. And thank for Stripping: My Fight to Find Me, a great book.”
